IDS vs IPS

Both intrusion detection system (IDS) and intrusion prevention system (IPS) are important considerations from a computer security perspective. The goal for the (IDS) is to detect any suspicious network activity. On the other hand, (IPS) is a proactive and preventive.

This means that (IDS) will only alarm you, if any malicious activities occur on the network; while the (IPS) will do so and try to prevent that malicious activities from gaining access to your system.
