Encrypting an Image Using ECB Operation and CBC Operation

This is an example of the process of encrypting picture on its original status; and how it will look like after encryption process using both ECB operation and CBC operation.

  • The original picture:

original-image-1

  • Encrypting the picture using ECB operation:

ecb-operation-1

  • Encrypting the picture using CBC operation:

cbc-operation-1

Another example of encrypting a picture would be the following:

  • The original picture:

original-image-2

  • Encrypting the picture using ECB operation:

ecb-operation-2

  • Encrypting the picture using CBC operation:

cbc-operation-2

Notice how you can still see the outlines of the picture’s content in the ECB operation in both examples. However, it is beautifully masked in the CBC operation, where you cannot tell anything about the original image.

Remember: Do not encrypt images using ECB operation.
